Proposal for change[edit]

I'd like to add a description to the top of the category page which will provide more detail about what cities and towns are included on the list (per WP:CAT#Creating category pages). I'd then like to expand the list.

Specifically, I'd like to included on the list:

  • populated places which were once located on the Mississippi River, but are no longer located there due to historic changes to the river's route. For example, Greenville is on the list, though it's now 3 miles from the river, but Austin and Fort Adams aren't on the list.
  • ghost towns still located on (or in) the river, such as Commerce and Prentiss.
