Oxfordians (category)[edit]

I'm sorry the category Oxfordians was changed to "People from Oxford", since an Oxfordian usually means a member of the University of Oxford rather than a person from Oxford. This is like changing "Etonians" to "People from Eton": most people from Eton are not what virtually everybody understands by the term "Etonian". I think "Oxfordian" can mean either of the city or of the university, but "People from Oxford" doesn't have those two meanings: it only means people who have some connection with the city by means of birth, residence, etc. I would say that I am an Oxfordian because I am a member of the university, but I wouldn't say that I am a person from Oxford, because I was born, and now live permanently, in London.--212.219.238.130 18:12, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting to see people Oxford category.

Oxford is rather devoid of sports achievers who were actually born in Oxford or grew up in Oxford. I notice Vic Mobley and Garry Parker are included as soccer players. Neither played for their country at the highest level, though of course both were excellent players.

Anne Wheeler swam for both Great Britain and Wales, English schools champion 1968 and Welsh record holder in 110 yards.

There must be others whou would qualify for this list. /*Oxfordians(category)*/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.89.240 (talk) 09:50, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
