The Unibomber Manifesto - Why not?[edit]

Really Wikipedia?? Do we want to overlook INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE? Composed by psychopathic package-bomber assassin Ted Kosinski, it is a long political rant by a real criminal. It is very political in tone, and historically significant that it was forced into print publication by the writer. In 1995, millions of readers must have glanced at it on paper. The Internet user base was about 40 million - this document was perhaps significant as a transitional stepping stone of media publishing.

The author threatened to send a bomb to an unspecified destination “with intent to kill” unless one of the newspapers published this manuscript. The Attorney General and the Director of the FBI recommended publication.

Wikipedia should not be afraid of important historical content. The tactic of ignoring it in hopes that it will fade away and disappear may instead serve to confirm its power as an underground manifesto. We would do a disservice by ignoring it -- we misapply agnotology by not including this; and if we mark it with the smell of fear, it takes on a greater status.

To bury that history - we only build a greater monument to that manifesto. Better to include it as an archive. The 35,000 word document is not suited to a twitter feed - but by omitting it from a list of political manifestos we give the text a different form of attention that may be unwise.
