I find the current structure confusing as some universities are in a subcategory of "Universities in England by county" and others are in the main category. Also some universities have campuses in more than one county. My suggestion is:
"Universities in England by county" should be a non diffusing subcategory (i.e. all universities would be in the main category as well)
Categories of "Universities in England by county" should by ceremonial counties in line with other "by county" categories. Yorkshire should be divided into North, East Riding, South and West (suggested by User:Aloneinthewild)
BrownHairedGirl, Thanks for your comments. As an alternative I would suggest dispensing with universities by county, Devon, Essex, Kent, Staffordshire, Surrey and Yorkshire, and adding the subcategories for universities in Greater London, South and West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and West Midlands (County) to the main category. That would leave the main category a similar size, but would need CfD approxal. A third option would be to create the missing by county subcategories, but (around) 44 by county subcategories would be needed to cover England, which would be excessive for around 90 universities in England outside London. @TSventon I see no benefit to readers in dspensing with those by-county categories. Why would you want to do that? --BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 17:21, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
BrownHairedGirl, I think the by county categories are overcategorisation as there are about two universities per county outside London. Multicampus universities have been placed in more than one county category, so BPP University could be in eight different county categories. How do you think the current structure could be improved, or should it be left as it is? TSventon (talk) 17:46, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
BrownHairedGirl, I have been trying some alternative suggestions in search of consensus. Do you think the current structure should it be left as it is? Yorkshire is not a ceremonial county so it should probably be replaced by the four ceremonial counties. TSventon (talk) 18:13, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
