Naming[edit]

Can someone explain the naming of this category? Do we have other articles than 'Wikipedia articles'? Are there sister categories by something other than 'infobox' or 'infobox content'? -DePiep (talk) 13:51, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DePiep: I just created that category a few hours ago and chose the name because basically all maintenance articles start with "Wikipedia". Furthermore there also news articles and alike so having "Wikipedia" in the name is clearer and less ambiguous. Not sure what you mean with "sister categories by something other than 'infobox' or 'infobox content'" though? You might be interested in Category:Articles. --Fixuture (talk) 18:16, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
'basically all maintenance articles start with "Wikipedia"': not in my experience. Also, it is enlonging category names with meaningless words (I'm working on a large set of such categories, so repeating non-informative words makes this pagebottom list unnecessary long). About 'sister categories': if you have a '... infobox content' name, there might be similar names like '... infobox non-content', '... navbox issues'. (Also, one could consider 'Category:WikiProject Infobox' -- that would be more informative). All in all, what is the overall use for this category? -DePiep (talk) 18:34, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@DePiep: Well I'm not sure what type of maintenance categories you looked at. I don't agree with that assessment and saw probably well over a hundred of maintenance categories. It's not a meaningless word for the reason stated above (as well as for other reasons such as standardization and convenience). If you work on a large set of such categories you should obviously trim away these words (at least for sorting and alike) if they're problematic. I still have no clue what you mean by these "sister-categories" - e.g. what "non-content" could mean. Also please see that category's parent category. I'm not sure what the use of this category might be - it holds all categories of infoboxes by content because I want to diffuse the parent category. It might be used for researching Wikipedia and datamining. --Fixuture (talk) 19:07, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Re 'sister categories': if the name 'Category:Wikipedia articles by infobox content' has '... content', that word only has meaning if there exists an other word in that place (for example: 'Category:Wikipedia articles by infobox formatting'). If such a sister name does not exist (nor is planned to exist), then the word 'content' is meaningless and can be omitted -- so should be omitted. -DePiep (talk) 19:13, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why not, like: 'Category:Wikipedia infobox categories'? (why is that word 'articles' in there?) -DePiep (talk) 19:31, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@DePiep: Sorry, but why nitpick on such unimportant, minor naming issues when there are far more pressing things to do on here? If there are relevant subcategories for a category "Category:Wikipedia articles by infobox formatting" you could create it. The word has meaning there. Just like the word "Wikipedia" at start - I already explained why earlier. The latter suggestion is more constructive, however it's not about Wikipedia infobox categories. Basically it's for categories populated by parameter-values of infoboxes and alike (hence "content"). --Fixuture (talk) 23:01, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I really stumbled over this name (and its predecessor). I pointed out which pitfalls (unclear parts) it has. Whether important or not, it is good to have crisp names for crisp usages. Having to ask for clarification is not a good sign. -DePiep (talk) 08:58, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here's more: 'Category:Wikipedia categories for infoboxes'. And, aren't these 'Category:Wikipedia categories tracking infoboxes'. -DePiep (talk) 09:01, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
