Corrado Veneziano

Corrado Veneziano (born 1958 Tursi, Italy) is an Italian painter, visual artist, author and academic.

Veneziano has exhibited artwork in exhibitions in Italy, Russia and elsewhere in Western Europe. He has lectured and published on the Italian language and its dialects.

Biography[edit]

Veneziano was born in Tursi in 1958. PhD in Art and Literature, in 1976 he studied directing at the Piccolo Theatre School in Milan while also taking courses at the University of Milan at the Faculty of Modern Literature. He graduated from the University of Bari (Faculty of Literature) with qualifications to teach Latin and Italian languages, history and philosophy. In these years, Veneziano has published several books on communication, with the publishing companies: Laterza, Giunti, Besa, Gremese, ETS, Il Sextante. Since 2013, his activity has increasingly converged on figurative art and painting.

In 2013, Veneziano presented his first personal exhibition "Le forme dei non-luoghi" ("Forms of non-place") in the ECOS Gallery in Rome.[1] The catalogue of exhibition includes texts by Achille Bonito Oliva and Marc Augé. In 2015, Veneziano exhibited his work at the exhibition "Isbn Dante e altre visioni" in Paris at the Espace en Cours. Also in 2015, RAI commissioned a painting from Veneziano for the Prix Italy exhibition in Turin. Titled "The Power of History. Laboratory of creativity." In 2016, Veneziano presented the exhibition "L'Anima dei Codici" ("Soul Codes") in St. Petersburg, Russia at the Nevsky 8 Gallery. In 2017 he was invited to Lanzhou by the Chinese government, and presented 40 canvases dedicated to symbols, logos, icons, and algorithmic and literary codes. In 2019, on the occasion of international events related to the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death, he was invited by the Loire Regions and the City of Amboise (where Leonardo is buried) to present his solo exhibition "Leonardo Atlantico." The exhibition was sponsored by the Presidency of the French Republic and the Louvre Museum.

In 2021, ISBN Dante and other visions was the only solo exhibition by a living artist funded by the Ministry of Culture. Created as part of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, the exhibition was hosted in international state galleries and museums. One of the paintings in the exhibition - Hell, evoking Buffalmacco - has become the stamp of the Italian State dedicated to Hell.

In 2022, Veneziano has carried out the recovery of 13 old advertising totems in Rome, on the Tiber Island (Unesco heritage). After having redeveloped them, he has painted them with phrases from the poem Le Georgiche, by the latin poet Virgilio, and with figurative elements that celebrate respect for nature and living animal species.

In 2023, Veneziano moved part of his work to Belgium, to Brussels. Here he exhibited his work with a large exhibition dedicated to Dante and Europe, in agreement with the European Union (European Committee of the Regions), the Embassy of Italy, the Lazio Region, the CNR National Research Council, Unioncamere and other institutions.

Veneziano's subsequent work is instead dedicated to the Italian art historian Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle (1819 - 1897) who, together with Joseph Archer Crowe (1825 - 1896) wrote and published - in London, in 1864 - the first "History of painting in Italy from the 12th Century to the 16th Century". Corrado Veneziano has recovered Cavalcaselle's notebooks, drawings and sketches (preserved at the Marciana Library in Venice and at the National Art Library in London). He has studied his ingenious "attributions" (capable of correctly identifying the true authors of many works from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance) and has created new, original paintings: a contemporary author who has therefore reinterpreted a nineteenth-century art historian, who in turn studied and drew artists active between 1200 and 1600 in Italy.
