Daiva Balam (transl.God's Grace) is a 1959 Telugu-language swashbuckler film, produced and directed by Ponnaluru Vasanthakumar Reddy. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Jayasri and music composed by Ashwatthama. The film is the debut of Shobhan Babu in the film industry.[1][2] The film is known to be one of the earliest Telugu film containing sequences in Eastmancolor.

Plot[edit]

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom Malava its King Ugrasena has a daughter, Rupa. According to her horoscope, she is going to knit an ordinary citizen. Whereat, furious Ugrasena affirms to change her fate so he seeks the whereabouts of the boy Chandrasena, via astrologers, and edict to eliminate him. Anyhow, he escapes and reaches an ashram with his mother Annapurna. Years roll by, and Rupa is acquainted with Chandrasena while hunting and they crush. King Ugrasena announces tournaments in the capital in which Chandrasena prevails and is honored. That night, Chandrasena proceeds to meet Rupa covetously and is captured. At that moment, Annapurna pleads with the king to quit him, when Ugrasena senses him the same and commands him to throw it into the cellar of demons Chandrasena slays it, elopes with Rupa, and they land a death house. Hence, the king publishes that whoever retrieves his daughter is highly rewarded. Learning it, two callow Takku & Tikku move. In the death house, Rupa is seized by an enchanter where Queen Gandharva Rani entrusts the challenge to Chandrasena to acquire a musical tree from Chambala Island, ruled by wizard Kanakaksha. After setting off on an adventurous journey, Chandrasena reaches the island where Kanakaksha's daughter Champa allures him, through whom he succeeds in achieving the tree and relieves Rupa. But unfortunately, Kanakaksha recoups Chandrasena by transforming into a garland, and helpless, Rupa is caught by Takku-Tikku. Parallelly, Kanakaksha commands Chandrasena to wed his daughter which he denies. So, he is subjected to torments. Fortunately, Rupa flees, moves to Chamba Island with the aid of the musical tree, and lets her beloved free. Chandrasena slaughters Kanakaksha, blasts the island and they return when Ugrasena also realizes no one can change the fortune. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Chandrasena & Rupa.
