David Sanford "Sandy" Gottesman (born 1926 or 1927[1][2]) is a businessman appearing as #336 on Forbes' 2007 list of billionaires.
He founded the investment advisory firm First Manhattan in 1964.[3][1]
He began a friendship with Warren Buffett in 1962.[1] He was an early investor in Berkshire Hathaway and today owns 19,000 shares worth $2 billion[1]. He joined the Berkshire Hathaway board of directors in 2003.[1]

He lives in Rye, New York, and is married with three children.[2][1] He has 7 grandchildren.[citation needed] He is an avid swimmer.[4]
He is the son of Benjamin Gottesman and Esther Garfunkel.[2] He is a nephew of Samuel Gottesman.
