David Pocock is an Australian political party founded in 2022[1] that serves as a vessel for the Independent ACT Senator, David Pocock. The party was founded prior to the 2022 Australian Senate election in order to give Pocock the ability to have himself promoted above-the-line on the ballot paper. The party's website states that without appearing above-the-line, "He (Pocock) would have had no chance of winning."[2]

Fellow ACT candidate for the Senate, Kim Rubenstein, formed a political party, Kim for Canberra, for the same reasons as David Pocock.[3] David Pocock Party listed Kim for Canberra as its second preference on its how-to-vote card, directly after Pocock himself.[4]

Political positions[edit]

The party tends to be left-wing on most issues, exhibiting its main campaign issues as Integrity, Cost of Living, Equality, and Climate Change.[5] This contributed to his election heavily due to Canberra's largely progressive voter base.[6]

Fake Election signs in the 2022 Australian federal election[edit]

Due to Pocock's personal political positions, which can arguably be compared to that of the Greens, during the election campaign, fake signs began appearing around the ACT which were largely alike to those of the true signs, however they represented Pocock wearing a shirt symbolic to the Greens.[7] The authorisation statement, as required by Australian law, read that it was authorised by Advance Australia. Advance is an Australian conservative lobby group, which has loose ties to the Liberal Party of Australia. The signs were also found in the same style to have been faked for fellow teal independents, Zali Steggall and Monique Ryan.[7]
