A Special Relationship is an upcoming bio-pic of Elizabeth Taylor starring Rachel Weisz.

Synopsis[edit]

The film is thought to concentrate on the friendship between Elizabeth Taylor and Roger Wall, her personal secretary who contracted HIV in the 1980s and who in part led to Taylor becoming an activist and fundraiser for AIDS charities.[1]

In October 2019, it was announced Weisz would play Elizebeth Taylor in a later life bio-pic written by Simon Beaufoy and directed by Bert & Bertie with production from See-Saw Films’ Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.[2][3][4] Filming was scheduled to begin in Autumn 2022 in London, England, and Ventura, California as well as Spain.[5] In August 2022 it was revealed the film would receive $2,500,000 Californian tax credits.[6] In 2023 BBC Film marked the project as being in-production.[7]
