There are bilateral treaties that govern aviation rights between the United States and Hong Kong, which cover both passenger services and cargo services. However, there is no "open skies" agreement between Hong Kong and the US, which generally refers to an agreement that allows unrestricted flights between countries. The current US-Hong Kong treaty specifies the number of flights permitted. Due to the highly regulated nature of awards for route authority between the two countries and the strict limits on number of flights.

Flights in operation before 2020[edit]

In 2006, there were 8 non-stop flights between the two countries, operated by two major US carriers, United and Northwest, and one major Hong Kong carrier, Cathay Pacific

As of 2013, there were 7 non-stop routes, operated by one major US carrier United, and one major Hong Kong carrier, Cathay Pacific.

As of 2018, there are 14 non-stop routes, operated by three major US carrier, United, Delta, American and two major Hong Kong carriers, Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines
