Alfred Newell Johnson (1915-1989)

He was a candidate for California's Seventh District in the 1940 Congressional election running as a Communist. His brochure advertised him as "For Peace, Jobs and Security".[1]

The New York Public Library has a collection of his papers.[2] A radiotelephone operator license renewal application hearing was held after he was accused of being a Communist.[3]

He was mentioned at a hearing about "Communist Infiltration of the Atomic Bomb Project".[4] He was indentified as a member of the Young Communist League and as a "Negro from Oakland".[5]
