Amanda Lau (Chinese: 劉美德; born 7 September 2005) is a Hong Kong actress and filmmaker. She began acting at age 15 and started filmmaking in the following year. She is known for directing, writing, and starring in the short film The Gift, which has won the Champion and the Best Acting Award in the 9th Mini-movie Competition in 2023.
Early Life[edit]
Lau grew up in a swim family and learned swimming from her parents since she was a little kid. She became a professional swimmer and finswimmer of the Hong Kong team. As a represented athlete of Hong Kong, she has participated several international finswimming competitions and won numerous medals and trophies. She was awarded for the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards of 2018 Sports for Hope Foundation hosted by the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
During her days as a student at Jockey Club Ti-I College, Lau started a Youtube channel and posted sketch comedy videos. A total of over 100,000 views has gained on her channel.
Personal Life[edit]
Lau currently lives in Hong Kong with her parents. Her interests include swimming, singing, playing music and doing magic tricks.
Acting Career[edit]
In 2020, Lau began performing by starring in the musical Sing Out. She first honed her craft by self-learning on Youtube. Then, she joined different local acting workshops and classes to further refine her skills. Later, she landed a number of roles in movies, TV series and music videos and started her career in acting. In 2023, she won the 9th Mini-movie Competition for Best Acting by portraying Yan, an altruistic teenager, in the short film The Gift, which she also directed and written.
