Professor Andreas Esheté (Ge'ez/Amharic: እንድርያስ እሸቴ) is an Ethiopian philosopher and public intellectual.

Professor Andreas has written extensively on moral and political philosophy.
Politics & Public Service[edit]
Andreas Esheté was a leading figure in the All-Ethiopia Socialist Movement, one of the organizations that incited the 1974 revolution and overthrow of the Ethiopian monarchy.[1] Esheté had contributed to the forming of the 1995 Ethiopian constitution. [2] While studying in America, Esheté took an active role in the civil rights movement.[3] He has also spoken on his own experience of working with the Black Panther Party and the Northern Student Movement, while at Yale.[4]

- Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with the rank of a Minister[6]
- President of Addis Ababa University[7]
- Deputy Chairperson of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa[8]
- Co-Founder of the Association for the Return of the Maqdala Ethiopian Treasures[9]
Education[edit]
Professor Andreas studied philosophy at Williams College and Yale University and taught at several American universities, among them: Brown, UCLA, UC-Berkeley and Penn.[10] He later became President of Addis Ababa University.
Personal Life[edit]
From his childhood, Esheté has been a close friend of the family of Richard Pankhurst, and his mother, former Suffragette, Sylvia Pankhurst.[11] Professor Andreas has also collaborated with Richard Pankhurst on several works. Esheté returned to Ethiopia from the US in the early 1990s.[12]
