Angela Fensch (born 20 November 1952 in Schwerin) began her photographic career as a model and mannequin in the GDR. She became known as a portrait photographer. Her photographic work appeared in journals and magazines such as Sibylle, Das Magazin and Für Dich. She became known nationwide for her photographic milieu and long-term studies of young people in the Uckermark or generational portraits.

Politically, she is involved in the initiative "Save the Uckermark" against the installation of wind turbines.

Life and work[edit]

Angela Fensch trained as a librarian at the university library of Humboldt-Universität Berlin, which she completed in 1971. From 1972 she worked as a freelance model and mannequin, including for the Fashion Institute of the GDR, the VHB Exquisit and fashion magazines. In 1974, as an autodidact, she got a photo assistant position at Fernsehen der DDR. In 1975 she began training as a photographer, and a year later she was accepted to study at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. After graduating, she worked as a freelance photographer on behalf of GDR magazines and companies such as Pentacon Dresden, ORWO-Filmfabrik Wolfen, VEB Deutsche Schallplatte and others.

From 1984 she was a member of the Association of German Journalists VdJ and from 1988 she was a candidate for admission to the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR. During this time she had her first solo exhibitions.

Angela Fensch has two sons (born 1977 and 1993). She lives and works in Berlin and with Bildhauer Florian Flierl in the district of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte.
