Archana Johri (Hindi: अर्चना जौहरी; 25 July 1958) is an Indian poet, Lyricist, Script Writer and Anchor based in Mumbai.

Early life and education[edit]

Archana belongs to Uttar Pradesh and was born in 1958 in Kanpur. Her father, Ishwara Nand Arya, was a high ranked officer in Indian railways and later transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation. He himself had a keen interest in writing and was highly educated with a double masters degree in Hindi and English languages. In addition to this, he held an L.L.M Degree and her mother, Nirmala Arya was a homemaker. Archana is the second of four sisters. Artistically inclined from a very young age, she penned her first story at the age of 17, for which she won Amritlal Nagar Award at the state level. She has a deep interest in music and literature.

Archana received his primary education from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and completed her post graduation in Psychology from Kanpur University, in 1979.

Career[edit]

1980–2000[edit]

Archana started writing regular columns for Navbharat Times, Mumbai and for other magazines and journals of national level. She was associated with All India Radio, Lucknow in the capacity of writer and anchor. In 1984, her first book 'Navankur' was published. She moved to Mumbai in 1986 and continued her passion of writing and anchoring. She also worked in the popular women's magazine Meri Saheli as Sub-Editor with Actress Hema Malini being the Editor in chief. She started writing scripts for TV shows on different channels like Bachchon Ki Adalat, Sweet Sixteen, Videocon Top Parade etc. In 1995, she got associated with Mumbai Doordarshan as an anchor for the prestigious program, 'Sangeet Ka Akhil Bhartiya Karyakram', 'Mumbai Humari Mumbai' and so on. Along with that, she also produced and directed shows for Doordarshan like 'Uttar Pradesh Mein Shaadi Byaah', 'Raksha-Bandhan' to name a few.

2000-Present[edit]

In new millenium, Her book of stories and poems 'Zindagi-Zindagi' was published in 2004. In 2005, she was appointed as Preview Committee Member for Doordarshan to grade the feature films to be shown on National Network. In the same year, she worked as a News Reader in 'Ontrack Suburbs' Channel. Archana also wrote a comedy play, 'Rasik Machhuaran' with actress Upasana Singh in the lead role. She wrote a series of episodes based on science facts of Nano-Technology, 'The World of Nano'. She played the role of Gauhar Jaan's Mother in 'Suron Ka Kaarvaan', a documentary made by Doordarshan and released by Former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She edited the book poems, 'Mann Ki Baat' written by her father. She also wrote dialogues and lyrics for films like Sunderkand Let love find you[1] and Vaasta.[2] She also acted in film called 'Waster'.[3] From 2017 to 2020, she hosted a very popular literary show, Sathaiya Sarita[4]which created a buzz in the Literature Industry. In 2022, her book of Ghazals, 'Yaadon Ki Katran'[5] was published which is very popular among the readers. She is the founder and director of a charitable trust called 'Shashwat Abhivyakti ka Ek Manch'[14] which promotes music and arts.

Personal life[edit]

Archana married Raajesh Johri, a scriptwriter, anchor and poet in the year 1986. She has two daughters, Ratika Johri and Rashee Johri. The elder one, Ratika is a singer and lending her voice for many albums, serials and films. The younger one, Rashee is an anchor, choreographer, director and founder of an event company - 'Zodiac events'.
