Ashton Lamon Spears (born April 28, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the BLB Hoppers of the National Masculine 3 (NM3). He played four seasons of college basketball. The first two years for Jacksonville State Gamecocks and the remaining two years for St. Edward's Hilltoppers. In 2019, he won the Conference Player of The Year award while playing for the Hilltoppers.

Early life and Career[edit]

Spears attended Independence High School in Independence, Louisiana where he played 3 years before finishing his senior year at Oak Forest Academy in Amite, Louisiana. Lightly recruited out of high school he entered his postgraduate year at Believe Prep Academy in Rock Hill, South Carolina. After his post-graduated year he enrolled at Jacksonville State University to play for the men's basketball team under head coach Ray Harper. After a two year campaign at JSU he transferred to St. Edward's University where he played under Andre Cook for his junior and senior season.

College career[edit]

Ashton started his college career at Jacksonville State University in the NCAA Division I. He played two seasons for the Gamecocks.

As a freshman at JSU 2016-2017, he appeared in 26 games while averaging 8.4 minutes per game ... averaged 2.5 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals per game ... recorded a 1.25 assist-to-turnover ratio ... set a career-high in scoring with a 14-point performance at Samford on Dec. 4, 2016 ... lone other double-digit scoring game (10) came at Belmont on Jan. 19, 2017 ... had a 5-point, 5-rebound game against Eastern Kentucky in 20 minutes of game action on Jan. 26, 2017 ... played two minutes against Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.[1]

As a sophomore at JSU 2017-2018, he saw action in 34 games and made five starts... totaled 132 points, averaging 3.9 per contest... swiped 15 steals and pitched in 33 assists... shot .790 (49-of-62) from the free-throw line... posted four double-digit scoring games... earned his first double-double Nov. 20 vs. Savannah State with 10 points and 11 rebounds... matched a career-high 14 points twice during the season, scoring the pair against Samford on Dec. 3 and Howard on Dec. 17.[2]

As a Junior at SEU 2018-2019, he played and started all 34 games. He totaled 647 points, averaging 20 per contest. swiped 84 total steals and dished 77 assists.. shot .749 (125-167) from the free throw line.. posted (31) double digit scoring games.. and a season high 32 points vs Daemen University. He also went on to win many individual accolades[3] Lastly he won the HLC Player of the Year, New Comer of the Year, and Tournament MVP

As a Senior at SEU 2019-2020 he played and started in all 31 games. He totaled 619 points, averaging 20 per contest. swiped 80 steals and dishes 69 assists.. shot .746 (153-203) from the free throw line. posted (23) double digit scoring games and a career high 43 points against Tarleton State. He also went to win individual awards in the LSC that year.[3]

Professional Career[edit]

BLB HOPPERS (2021-present)

On 9 June 2021, Spears signed to play with the BLB Hoppers in the NM3 He has signed a one year contract deal. He is currently averaging 23 points per game with the Hoppers.[4] He posted a season high 43 points against Basketball Club Ardres[4]
