Avonmouth Football Club is a football club based in Bristol, England. They are currently members of the Gloucestershire County Football League and play at the King George V Recreation Ground, Bristol.

History[edit]

Avonmouth Football Club was formed in 1919 under the name of Avonmouth St Andrews[1], playing their early football in the Bristol Church of England League just off the main road of Avonmouth.

In 1930 they moved to a sports ground built in West Town Road by Philip Napier Miles. Not long after, in 1936, the club moved to the Bristol and District League - winning Division 2 in their first season (1936-37).

Shortly after World War 2 they were allowed to field sides in both the Bristol and District League and Bristol & Suburban League and won the Suburban League Division One title in 1953-54.

In 1967 they found themselves moving ground again, as the construction of the M5 Motorway had demolished their ground at West Town Road. They moved to Canford Park in Westbury-on-Trym, where they stayed until 1986 when they moved to their current ground after Avonmouth Old Boys RFC vacated.

They won the Suburban Premier Division One title in 2006-07[2] but were unable to get promoted. And, after coming close many times, in the 2022-23 season they got promoted out of the Bristol & Suburban League and into the Gloucestershire County League for the first time in their history, winning the league unbeaten[3] and then earning promotion in a three-team playoff tournament against Hanham Athletic F.C. (also promoted) and Chalford Town F.C.

Ground[edit]

The club currently play at the King George V Recreation Ground, in the Avonmouth area of Bristol.[4]
