Draft:Baba Jaga Festival

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baba Jaga Festival is a special event organized by the organizers of Grodzisko Owidz, a reconstruction of a medieval settlement located in the small village of Owidz, near Starogard Gdański.

The idea behind the festival is to show children that they do not need to be afraid of Baba Jaga anymore. Initially, this seemed impossible because, during their childhood, they were told that she cooks children in a cauldron as soon as they get lost in the woods and approach her hut made of sweets. Fortunately, the children soon came to understand that these are just Slavic legends and are not based on true stories.

At the festival, the youngest attendees and anyone interested in Slavic culture can participate in various workshops, listen to stories told in medieval times, shoot a bow, weave wreaths, and enjoy medieval music while dancing by the fireplace as the sun goes down. For those who prefer the culinary aspects of old Polish culture, it is worth visiting the inn within the complex and tasting delicious dishes. The menu includes wild boar meat with cranberries, well-seasoned venison, and delicious old Polish sour soup.

Annual Contest[edit]

The organizers have decided to hold a contest that will be observed by a special jury, which will select the Jaga of the Year and the Little Jaga. There are various competitions for participants, such as fortune-telling, creating magical potions, flying on a broom while overcoming an obstacle course, herbal knowledge quizzes, and inventing a spell for good weather.
