The Battle of Vidohovë, also known as the Vidhovë Attack, was an armed engagement between the Albanian People's Army and the Hellenic National Army that took place during the Border War in Albania. The history of the war has been allegedly recorded by the Albanian side, citing concerns that it must have been fabricated

Battle[edit]

On August 2, 1949, three to four Greek battalions of the National Army, supported by artillery and aircraft, penetrated a demarcation line into the Albanian village of Vidohova. The National Army started to bombarded the Albanian border area of Vidohovë with artillery. As a reaction, the border troops of the Albanian People's Army under the command of Memo Nexhipi fired back at the Greek troops. The first assault lasted three hours but it failed to break the Albanian line of defense. The Greek forces made a second attempt to break the line. In the second assault, the Greek forces were able to seize the village of Vidohovë.

Aftermath[edit]

After about 4 hours into the fight, at 18:30 hours, the Albanian force counterattacked and were able to seize back the village. The Greek forces left around 100 dead. The Albanian side lost 6 soldiers (Memo Nexhipi, Ferit Bregasi, Tafil Ferhati, Shyqyri Avdia, Ibrahim Fetahu, Hasan Ramadani) and 6 wounded.
