Nigerian singer-songwriter
Greatness Toluwa Omomo (born 27 March 2002), who is professionally known as Boy Nessar, is a talented Nigerian singer and songwriter. He made his debut in the music industry with the release of his first single, Fashion Icon, in November 2023. Demonstrating his dedication and prolific creativity, Boy Nessar followed up with the simultaneous release of two additional singles, Born to Shine and Salary, on March 8, 2024.
Early life[edit]
Boy Nessar, hailing from Ondo State, was born and raised in Uyo, Akwa Ibom until he was 6, before relocating with his family to Ibadan, Oyo State. He was a member of the RCCG church choir and discovered his interest in music. He built his interest by singing with the choir during special numbers as well as joining the church instrumentalists as a drummer. He started writing songs in early 2019 before gaining admission to study at University of Ibadan.
Career[edit]
Fashion Icon was written on June 4 2019, two days before Boy Nessar went to study in the University. The song was one from the list of songs written by him after being inspired by Fireboy DML's[1] breakthrough single, "Jealous." After 4 years of finding a convincing entrance to the music industry, he finally dropped Fashion Icon as his debut release on November 17 2023. He also featured in Molly's "Agatha" and "Who Born Them," by EF Moon and Starphlex.
Boy Nessar made his debut a ground-breaking anthem by bringing thrilling performances to the biggest campus shows including Trace in the City, Fanfaro Auto Fest, Triad Party, Mavin Campus Tour, Ibadan City Hangout, and many more. He got invited for an interview at Diamond 101.1 FM. Boy Nessar ended the year 2023 with an award from Echo Entertainment by emerging as the winner of the quarterly Studio Rat Contest.
On the 8th of March, 2024, Boy Nessar announced the release of a masterpiece which he tagged "Two Singles on a Friday." - Born to Shine (feat. Richardtharapper) & Salary (feat. Tunchie). BTS & Salary were produced by Kee Sound and SV Beats. These singles gathered up about 8,000 streams on all platforms within 3 weeks of release. Boy Nessar became popular for the much appreciated "Born to Shine" which became a favorite song for many because of the organized composition of afro-melodies, emotional voice synth and a catchy progression. Salary became an anthem and listeners commended the blend of Amapiano with traditional Afrobeat, accompained by African party hype. A week after, Boy Nessar released on YouTube, a "Part 1" of the viral video for "Born to Shine," which amassed hundreds of views.
Artistry[edit]
Boy Nessar describes his sound as Afro-fusion and said in an interview with Tessie at Diamond FM that he is going to be showing his listeners a relation between African Afrobeats and contemporary musical genres, as well as a reason "why we should always appreciate and cherish our sound". He names his supporters Nessar FC and explains they are the royal entourage of his promising journey. He is associated with the color brown/chocolate and uses the bear symbol to express himself on social media. Boy Nessar is widely known for an Italian name "Bellanova,"[2] which in English, means "beautiful/rising star."
