Chey Jae-won (born May 16, 1963) is a South Korean business magnate. He is the executive vice chairman of SK Group, South Korea's second largest conglomerate^[1], which has more than 175 subsidiaires spanning the energy, life sciences, advanced materials,and semiconductor industries. Chey Jae-won has also served as a co-CEO of SK On^[2], the electric vehicle (EV) battery business affiliated with SK Group. As a head of the business, Chey leads global business strategy, playing an important role in SK On's global business expansion. He has engaged with prominent figures in the automotive industry, including the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group^[3], as well as lawmakers including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear^[4], Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ^[5] to advance his endeavors in the battery business. Chey also attended the SK Siltron event, which marked President Biden's first visit to a South Korean factory in the United States.^[6]

Under his leadership, SK On has grown into a major EV battery company in the world^[7]. SK On's global market share surged from the 9th position in 2019 to a 5th place in 2020^[8]. Since then, the company has continued to solidify its position as one of the world's top 5 battery makers. Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, SK On has a worldwide presence with its battery plants currently operating or under construction across the United States^[9], Europe^[10], and Aisa. In October 2023, SK On was named No.1 in Fortune's 2023 "Change the World" list for its role in supporting America's move to electric vehicles, an important step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing global climate change^[11].

Chey Jae-won holds an MBA from Harvard University, an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Physics from Brown University.

He is the younger brother^[12] of Chey Tae-won, the chairman of SK Group.
