Christopher Francis Nugent (born 13 September 1981) is an Irish former soccer player and football coach who is currently Assistant Coach at MLS Next Pro side Chattanooga FC.[1]
Playing career[edit]
Nugent began his playing career in the NCAA at Rivier University [2]Raiders in 2007. While at River he was a three year captain, four time leading goal scorer, four time points leader, and a three-time all-conference selection. As a player Nugent spent time in the USL with Rhode Island Stingrays, Boston Aztecs, and Boston Tea Men
Coaching career[edit]
Nugent, who joined CFC for the 2022 season, He previously coached with CFC head coach Rod Underwood at Stumptown AC in Charlotte and came to Chattanooga with Underwood.[3] In August 2023 the club announced a contract extension. [1]
Prior to that, Nugent served as Technical Director and Performance Analyst for NC Fusion, coaching their USL2 and ECNL to the Southern Conference title and a National Runner-Up result. He also served as Assistant Academy Director and Head Coach with Queen City Mutiny (DA and MLSNext member). He holds his USSF “A” License and NSCAA Premier licenses.
Coach Nugent is known around the game for his innovative use of data for evidence-based coaching and key performance indicators.
Personal life[edit]
In April 2023 he officially became a U.S. citizen at a ceremony in Chattanooga.[4]
Nugent is a keen runner, having ran several marathons including the Boston, and Chicago Marathon.
