A Chicana Fashion Designer, Claudia Rodríguez-Biezunski, utilizes reclaimed fabrics and upcycled materials to create one-of-a-kind garments and accessories for men and women. In 2013, she opened up a sewing studio in San Diego, CA, named Sew Loka[1], where she is welcoming BIPOC[2] and disadvantaged communities through affordable handmade garments and accessories. Background[edit]
Claudia Rodríguez-Biezunski was influenced by her immigrant parents into gaining the passion of sewing. Her father was an owner of a denim factory in San Francisco, CA, while her mother would stay at home to sew clothes for the family. [3] When she began to sew, she created one-of-a-kind accessories for her friends and family. The materials she would get hands on were cheap and upcycled, usually would be zero cost.
At the age 25, Claudia took the decision to leave her receptionist job to pursue her dream of opening up her own sewing studio by moving to San Diego, California. In 2013, she opened a sewing studio, and the brand, "Sew Loka," was born.
