The Colby Mules football team represents Colby College of Waterville, Maine in the sport of college football as a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

History[edit]

In 1892, Colby Football played its first contest. Throughout its history, Colby Football has developed rivalries primarily with other Maine teams. In 1914, Colby topped in-state rivals, Bowdoin College, Bates College and the University of Maine by a combined score of 123-0, in one of their most storied seasons under head coach Myron Fuller.

In 1967, Head Coach Dick McGee took over Colby Football. In 1971, Colby joined the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The following year, Coach McGee produced a record 7-1 season in 1972, which stands today alongside 1994, 2000 and 2005 as the winningest seasons in Colby Football history.

In 2000, Colby Football captured their first NESCAC title under head Coach Tom Austin with a record of 7-1. Ahead of the 2018 season, Jack Cosgrove was hired to be the new Colby Football head coach. Under Coach Cosgrove, Colby Football has captured CBB titles in four of his first five full seasons (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).
