Cooke Nelson are an London based rock band formed in Muswell Hill in 2022. The group consists of lead singer Keza Kurowska, pianist Stanley Platt-Jones, guitarist Hamish Parkin, bassist Devi Maliha and drummer Alex Maynard.
History[edit]
Arctic Monkeys was formed in September 2022 by Hamish Parkin and Stanley Platt-Jones, although it would take a a year for the band to fully form. After coming to Stanley with a technical issue in the school music room, Hamish (along with Stanley as a producer and recording engineer) wrote the song Hedonists Dream. This is an unreleased funk song inspired by Nile Rogers and other funk, rnb and hiphop artists. This song is far from the sound of the current Cooke Nelson. The song also featured rapping verses. It was only after Keza Kurowska performed in the school play that Stanley and Hamish heard her voice. She was then involved in recording on the song Hedonists Dream - although it would be a few months later that Keza became an official member of the band. This version of the band was called Stei Teiss (combining parts of the band members names). This song was never released by the band. After their first song as a group, Hamish and Stanley started work on their next single - Hedonists Nightmare. This song featured a slow, piano verse that built to a huge rock finale, complete with a guitar solo. This song would later become A Quiet Life - the most popular song of Cooke Nelson. However, Hedonists Nightmare/A Quiet Life would not be released until a year later. This song saw Keza join the band as an official member. Both Alex Maynard and Devi Maliha where friends of the band members so they joined after some time. The band can be seen first fully together in their debut gig - Amped Up at Jacksons Lane. It was on 4 June 2023 that the name Cooke Nelson was decided on. A mix of the bands biggest inspirations Sam Cooke and Prince Rogers Nelson.
The Other Side[edit]
"The Other Side" is the debut single of Cooke Nelson. The project was recorded in the summer of 2023, and was mainly recorded, produced and mixed in 24 hours. The song was released on the 18th August 2023 under What If... Records. The song was played on radio stations such as the Boogaloo Radio and was picked up by countless blogs and playlists. The song features inspirations from Portishead, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.
All Strangers In The End[edit]
All Strangers In The End is the debut album of Cooke Nelson. The project was recorded over the period of 2022-2023, and saw countless revisions and versions. The album was initially untitled, featuring unreleased songs like Back To Me and Hedonists Dream. It was on 16 July 2023 that the album saw a drastic change. Both Hedonists Dream and Back to Me where scrapped from the album, and a new tone and style was decided. The name All Strangers In The End was decided on the 10th September 2023 over text. The bands interpretation of this name was that no matter what the human relations, relationships, friendships, the sobering truth is that we all die alone and ultimately end as strangers. This name was later paired with the cover art - photographed by Stanley Platt-Jones. The album was released on 2 December 2023 and was met with immense love and support. A Quiet Life currently sits as the most streamed song on the album, followed by Greyscale.
Amped Up at Jacksons Lane[edit]
Amped Up was an event hosted by What If... Records at the Jacksons Lane Theatre. The event sold out within a week and was an hugely successful first gig for Cooke Nelson.
