Draft:DJ.Studio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DJ.Studio is a DJ software application launched in 2023. DJ.Studio uses a different approach[1] in comparison to other DJ programs like rekordbox, Traktor, and Serato. Instead it uses a workflow closer to a DAW or audio editing software, rather than trying to emulate a traditional DJ setup.

History[edit]

DJ.Studio was founded in Friesland, Netherlands, by serial software entrepreneur Siebrand Dijkstra.[2]

Dijkstra was inspired to build DJ.Studio after becoming frustrated by the limitations of other software, and the lack of a DAW designed specifically for DJs.[2] He felt that the production of DJ mixes was still restrained by the paradigm of turntables dating back to the 1970s.

Functionality[edit]

Unlike traditional DJ software, DJ.Studio doesn't try to simulate a standard DJ hardware setup - such as a DJ mixer and pair of decks.

DJ.Studio uses a timeline-based interface, which works in a similar way to audio editing software and digital audio workstations. This gives DJs a new method for making DJ sets which is not limited by hardware and physical technique. By using a non-linear system, DJs are given the opportunity to experiment with mixes, and refine them over time.

Integrations[edit]

DJ.Studio is integrated with a range of other mainstream DJ software and music services, including:
