David O. Miller is an artist whose work has appeared in role-playing games.

Early life and education[edit]

David O. Miller was born in Ashland, Kentucky in 1958.[1] Miller was introduced to role-playing games in 1977.[2][3] In 1981 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design/Illustration from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky with minors in both filmmaking and philosophy.[1]

Career[edit]

David O. Miller began his career working at television stations and advertising agencies.[4] In 1987, Miller took a job as Art Director for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center/U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.[1] While he was there, he met Alan Shepard and Buzz Aldrin.[4] He was at the time also freelancing for RPG game companies such as TSR, Game Designers Workshop, White Wolf Publishing, Steve Jackson Games, West End Games and Wizards of the Coast, as well as Baen Books, DoubleDay Science Fiction and Military Book Clubs, Topps and Inkworks.[1] Miller left the Space and Rocket Center in February 1991 to freelance full-time.[1] In 2006 he contributed artwork for a card set based on Sliders.[4]

His Dungeons & Dragons work includes illustrations for Rock of Bral, Heart of the Enemy, Greyspace, Dune Trader, and The Complete Spacefarer's Handbook (1992), Space Lairs, Krynnspace, Black Flames, and The Astromundi Cluster (1993), City Sites (1994), Glantri: Kingdom of Magic, Castle Sites, and 2nd edition AD&D Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master Guide Revised (1995), and Player's Option: Spells & Magic (1996).

Personal life[edit]

Miller was a guest at the 2015 Hamptons Comic Book Show in Southampton, New York.[5][6] While living in East Northport, New York in 2017, Miller was one of the special guest artists in the Dark Knight Sketch Night events at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, New York.[7] In 2020, Miller was one of the guest artists to give presentations at Seneca Middle School in Seneca, New York for its third annual Senecon pop culture event.[8][9]
