Draft:DigiExam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DigiExam is an online platform designed for digital examinations and assessments. It is an Edtech company with digital knowledge control as its primary focus. The system allows educators to create or reuse exams efficiently and customize them through the system’s various settings. The software benefits teachers by reducing the time spent creating and managing exams while also providing students with tools to ease and enhance their writing.[1].

DigiExam consists of two parts, a client and a web-based part. The examiners launch, grade, and monitor the exams through the web-based part, while the students launch the exams through the client[1]. When DigiExam is being used, administrators can monitor the student’s progress. This can be done by using the webcam and an additional mobile camera to track students[2]. Furthermore, the lockdown mode limits the possibility of exiting the exam and the use of external sources that are not authorized by the teacher. The students get access to the exams by filling in an Exam ID or by being selected by the teacher. They are then able to launch the exam, prohibiting them from leaving the application without handing in the exam first. The grading process is also customizable. Educators can, for instance, choose automatic or anonymous grading, collaborative grading with other educators, and give feedback through the program. Students are then able to access this through the system and look through their exams through the web-based part[3].

Background[edit]

Johan Hägglund and Nima Marefat started the company DigiExam at the Stockholm School of Economics Business Lab in 2011. Their vision was to make digital examinations an option for as many people as possible[4]. Since its start, the program has gone from being used in Swedish secondary schools to institutions of higher education such as the London School of Economics and Political Science and Lund University. The system is currently used by 900 institutions in different parts of the world, such as Australia, England, and Canada[5]
