E. Gerald (Jerry) O'Brien is an American investor and businessman.[1]. O’Brien is the CEO and CIO of O’Brien-Staley Partners, an American investment management firm that he established along with former Cargill Chairman and CEO, Warren Staley[2][3][4].
Early Life and Education[edit]
E. Gerald O’Brien was born and grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
In 1989, O’Brien graduated with Honors from the University of Michigan, majoring in Economics. He later attended the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and graduated in 1994 with an MBA in Analytic Finance and Marketing[2][3][5].
Investment Career[edit]
Early Career[edit]
Prior to business school, O’Brien worked as a credit analyst for Chemical Bank, NA in New York and as a financial analyst for subsidiaries of DG Bank and Comerica Bank.[5]
Cargill[edit]
After graduate school, O’Brien worked at Cargill, the world’s largest private company, for 17 years and ascended to a leadership position within CarVal, the investment branch of Cargill[3].
O'Brien-Staley Partners[edit]
In 2010, O’Brien, along with Cargill’s CEO, Warren Staley, founded O’Brien-Staley Partners, an American investment firm headquartered in Minnesota[3].
Community Work and Philanthropy[edit]
O’Brien is a former board member of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and Weisman Art Museum[6]. O’Brien’s family has also established a donor-advised fund with the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundations that sponsors fellowships at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and the University of Minnesota Weisman Art Museum, and supports operations at the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery[6]. He is a former board member and Investment Committee Chair for Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundations. O’Brien is also the former Chairman of the Cargill PAC[7]

O'Brien and his family live in Edina, Minnesota.
