I've seen his middle name written as Howard but his son's middle name as Haviland.
Edward H. Lawson Sr. was a school principal and Washington Post employee. He was accused of impropriety before he graduated from Rutgers University but maintained relations with the school and his son Edward H. Lawson Jr. attended. Both attended Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. His son became a government advisor and writer.[1]
He won the Upson Junior-Orator Prize at Rutgers in 1907.[2]
