James William Awad, known professionally as Elyrix, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Awad began his music career under the alias Senior. His musical styles span Alternative, Hip hop, and R&B.
Early life[edit]
Elyrix was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. From a young age, he demonstrated an interest in music, exploring singing and songwriting as primary expressions of his creativity.[1] He became involved in programming and entrepreneurship. By 14, he began earning money as a freelance programmer.[2][3]
Career[edit]
James William Awad, a pioneer in modern business decentralization with TripleOne, has fundamentally changed the business landscape by applying blockchain and cryptocurrency principles. This strategy democratically distributes power and equity among contributors, ensuring every innovative business idea and effort is recognized and rewarded. TripleOne, under Awad's leadership, operates 19 companies.[2][4][5]
Simultaneously, Awad has made his mark in the music industry under the alias Elyrix. Starting his musical journey with the debut album "I Feel Better Alone" in 2020, crafted in his basement,[6] he quickly followed up with "break & tell" in 2021. His third album, "Ostrogoth Pt. 1," released in 2022, featured collaborations with Grammy-winning artists including Lil Baby, YK Osiris, Gucci Mane, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, and Rick Ross. The album's production involved ATL Jacob, FnZ, and Lens Dupuy, alongside mixing by Young Thug’s engineer, Bainz, contributed to the album's success. [7]
Elyrix's prominence in the music industry was further highlighted in August 2023 with "Day Off," a collaboration with Billboard 200 chart-topper Gunna. The music video's stark black and white visuals complement the track's message about the value of taking a break, underscoring Elyrix's growing influence and his ability to connect with established artists.[8]
In September 2023, Elyrix continued to build his momentum by partnering with NAV on "Looking At Me," a track anticipated to be a part of his forthcoming fourth studio album. This collaboration showcases Elyrix's proficiency in crafting compelling music and signifies a significant step forward in his career.[9]
Elyrix's exploration of complex emotional themes through music was evident with the release of "Play Your Games" on October 19, 2023. Featuring Rwandan singer Nicole Musoni, the song delves into the intricacies of toxic relationships, further proving Elyrix's adeptness at addressing deep-seated emotional issues.[10]
October 2023 also saw Elyrix expanding his entrepreneurial endeavors by co-founding Drummer Records, Inc., alongside manager Frank Balaguer and friend Jaylen Oriol-Netus. The label, which includes multi-platinum recording artist YK Osiris on its roster, signifies Elyrix's commitment to nurturing talent within the music industry. This was closely followed by the release of his fourth studio album, "No Sorrow,” on November 9, 2023. [11]

Notable events[edit]
One of Elyrix's most controversial moments occurred during the organization of a New Year's Eve event in 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He chartered a 180-passenger jet for a flight from Montreal to Cancun, drawing widespread criticism, including from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who labeled Elyrix and the participants "Ostrogoths." This remark from Trudeau, which was in response to concerns over the neglect of health guidelines during the Omicron surge, directly inspired the title of Elyrix's album, Ostrogoth Pt. 1. The event and its aftermath, including Elyrix's decision to provide a 10-day stay at an all-inclusive resort for attendees,[12] not only sparked controversy but also significantly influenced the thematic direction of his music.[13] [14]
In the midst of this uproar, James William Awad, the organizer of the charter flight, faced significant backlash after videos from the Dec. 30 flight surfaced, showing passengers flouting public health measures amidst the global pandemic. The footage depicted attendees jumping, dancing in the aisle, vaping, and sharing a bottle of hard liquor, with one individual even crowd-surfing. This blatant disregard for COVID-19 protocols led to Sunwing Airlines canceling the group's return flight, with Air Canada and Air Transat also refusing to transport the partygoers back to Montreal. Despite the outcry, Awad expressed no regrets over hosting the event but apologized for the behavior shown in the videos. He announced plans to pursue legal action against Sunwing for what he described as abandoning the group and breaching their contract. Moreover, Awad's insistence on not regretting the event, paired with his apologies and justifications for the onboard actions, encapsulates the complex aftermath of the controversy, further influencing the narrative and thematic elements of his subsequent musical endeavors.[15]
