Draft:FTC CenterStage (2023-2024)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CenterStage, officially known as CenterStage: Presented by Qualcomm for sponsorship reasons, is the FIRST TECH CHALLENGE game for the 2023-2024 season.[1] In the competition, two alliances of two teams compete to collect and place pixels onto a board in the ‘backstage’ area of the game field.

Alliances[edit]

In a match, there are red and blue alliances, both consisting of two teams. Alliances are selected randomly and work together to earn points. The alliances score points when both teams push pixels into the taped off backstage area, scoring pixels from the game board, launching and landing a paper airplane (Drone) into one of three landing zones, parking their robots in the backstage area, or by hanging their robot on a truss-like structure during the last 30 seconds of the game. During the Driver-Controlled period, the alliances can earn points for each pixel placed on the backdrop.

Field[edit]

The 12 feet by 12 feet field consists of 36 interlocking foam tiles and a one-foot wall surrounding the field. In two opposite corners, there are triangular-shaped taped off area where a human player can lay pixels. In the center playing filed, there is a truss structure that robots can suspend themselves on during the final 30 seconds of the game.[2]

Scoring[edit]

CenterStage has three components: the autonomous period, the Driver-Controlled Period, and the End Game.[2]

Autonomous period[edit]

During the initial 30 seconds of the game, robots can only move using instructions that have been pre-programmed and use inputs from sensors. Points are earned from collecting and scoring pixels, as well as parking. Team game elements can be placed on a spike during randomization to score 15 points.

Driver Control period[edit]

During the two minute Driver-Control period, two drivers operate the robot using gamepad controllers. Points are earned from scoring pixels onto the backdrop and placing pixels within the backstage.

End Game[edit]

During the 30 second End Game, points are awarded for the driver-controlled tasks as well as hanging and parking.
