Fernando Díaz Villanueva (Madrid, January 24, 1973) is a journalist, photographer, writer, historical divulgizer, and Spanish conference lecturer.

Biography[edit]

He studied Geography and History Faculty of Philosophy and humanities of the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he specialized in Contemporary History. Upon completing his studies , he joined as a writer at the Atlas agency, owned by Mediaset España, where he became part of the crime and investigation program "Código Rojo,", directed by Francisco Pérez Abellán, serving as a scriptwriter and editor. Meanwhile , he integrated into the online newspaper Libertad Digital, where he served as chief opinion editor. Subsequently, he became the Deputy Director of Content at Libertad Digital TV. Later on, he was hired as the director of the economic newspaper Negocios.com and as the deputy director of the newspaper La Gaceta. T Following the closure of the print edition of "La Gaceta in 2014", he moved to Guatemala City, where he served as the director of the School of Cinema and Visual Arts at the Francisco Marroquín University of Guatemala. Upon his return to Spain, he joined the team of the program "La Jungla 4.0" of José Antonio Abellán, broadcasted on Radio4G.

Currently, since 2016, he hosts and directs the podcasts "La ContraCrónica," focused on daily news, and "La ContraHistoria," centered on historical topics with a weekly frequency. Both programs are distributed on platforms such as Ivoox[1] and YouTube[2]. On YouTube, he has been introducing different formats such as "La ContraVentana", "La ContraCrítica" or the video blog "A la Contra". Since 2021, he has been streaming weekly live broadcasts on Twitch[3]. In 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 he received the Audience Award for the best program of the year on the iVoox platform[4]. His profile is very active and widely followed on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook & Instagram. [citation needed]

In printed media, he collaborates or has collaborated with La Ilustración Liberal, Liberalismo.org, the Semanario Alba, the magazine Xtra, the newspaper Vozpópuli and the magazine Milenio.[5]

On television, he was a regular collaborator for several years on various programs on Intereconomía TV such as "Dando Caña" or "El Gato al Agua", on Business TV like "Business Connection", on the program La Tuerka directed by Pablo Iglesias, and on Fort Apache, broadcasted by HispanTV. On Libertad Digital TV he directed and hosted alongside Fabián C. Barrio the show "Conectados" for two seasons.
