The Fipke Center for Innovative Research (FIP) is a research and academic facility located on the UBC Okanagan campusUniversity of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus). The Fipke Center houses an on-campus StarbucksStarbucks which provides both food as well as part time work to UBC students.

History[edit]

The Fipke Center, also known as the Charles E. Fipke Center, was named after Canadian Geologist and Prospector, Charles E. Fipke Charles E. Fipke. The building was created due to a CA$6,000,000 donation from Fipke in 2006. The Fipke Center was built in 2008 for the purpose of providing teaching labs, classrooms, student accommodations as well as other amenities.

Architecture[edit]

The building was designed by Kasian Architecture[1] and construction of the building was managed by Stuart Olson.[2] Upon completion, total costs amounted to $30.5 million[3] and the total size of the building is 73,446 ft².[4] Additionally, the Fipke center achieved the sustainability rating of 5 Green Globes as part of the Green Building Initiative Green Building Initiative. The Fipke building project was sponsored by the Irving K Barber faculty of arts and science Irving K. Barber
