The Friends Of Chile Benefit Concert was organized by folk singer Phil Ochs. It included Phil Ochs, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Dave Van Ronk, Dennis Hopper, Gato Barbieri, Mike Love, Dennis Wilson, Melanie, & Bob Dylan.[1] In a high state of intoxication, the performers entertained the crowd at the Felt Forum now called the Hulu Theater on May 9th, 1974 to raise awareness of the 1973 Chilean coup d'état. Ochs was motivated by the murder of singer, performer, and personal friend Víctor Jara who was kidnapped, tortured, and executed by the Pinochet regime in the days after the coup.[2]
