Gab AI is a platform that features various AI chatbot characters, each with a specific theme or personality. Users can interact with these characters, who can provide information and guidance on a wide range of topics, such as politics, productivity, well-being, and self-improvement. The platform aims to offer a novel way of exploring different viewpoints and suggestions through AI technology.[1][2][3] Gab AI is free to use and does not require signing up.[4] According to a representative from Gab AI, the platform provides a “venue for people to receive and impart ideas freely”.[5][6] It was launched to the public on January 24, 2024 by Andrew Torba, the founder and CEO of Gab AI, Inc., a social network known for its far-right content.[7][8][9][10][2]

Torba claims that Gab AI is an uncensored alternative to ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI.[2][12][13] Previously, Torba had denounced ChatGPT as “satanic” and had urged Christians to create an AI that praises God.[14] He made an announcement in January 2023, expressing the company's AI agenda and emphasizing the need for Christians to actively participate in the AI arms race.[15]

In addition to the website gab.ai, Gab AI also has a progressive web application that can be installed on mobile devices.[16]

Characters[edit]

Gab AI has nearly 200 chatbot characters with a wide range of political and social ideologies, including Donald Trump[17], Joe Biden[18], Adolf Hitler[19], and Vladimir Lenin[20], as well as far-right nationalist[21] and far-left communist[22] characters.[23] It also allows users to play various text-based adventure games based on different themes.[24][25][26]

On February 9, 2024, Gab AI launched the image generation feature and gave users the ability to create their own chatbot characters.[27][28]
