Giancarlo C. Moreira Salles (born 12 May 1995), known professionally as Giancarlo Moreira, is an American attorney, business magnate and investor. He is the Chief operating officer of the Campari Group, CFO of his family owned bank Itaú Unibanco and also a voting Board Member JAB Holding Company. As of September 2022, his net worth is estimated at US$12.1 billion.

Early life and education[edit]

Moreira was born as Giancarlo C. Moreira Salles in Brooklyn, New York on May 12, 1995, to Brazilian immigrant parents. In the late 1960s, Moreira parents – Cataleya Carmezinda Salles and Constantino Giancarlo Moreira Sr.– met while attending the Universidade de São Paulo in São Paulo, Brazil. Moreira parents became citizens of the United States in the late 1970s. Moreira graduated cum laude bachelor's in economics from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Moreira earned his Masters of Law degree from Columbia Law in New York City, NY. Moreira speaks seven languages which includes speaking Portuguese fluently, English, Italian, Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, Japanese.

Career[edit]

Moreira has been unofficially involved with Unibanco since birth, since the bank was headed for several decades by his mother. Moreira has been the chief operating officer of Unibanco since September 2015 and chief operating officer of Itaúsa since May 2015.

Following the death of his mother, Cataleya Carmezinda Salles on November 22, 2021, it was announced that her son Giancarlo Moreira, chief financial officer of Unibanco "would now assume control of Alicros, which owns 51 percent of Unibanco's equity, and an even greater share of voting rights".

Moreira is a sports and entertainment attorney with offices in Orlando, Florida, Miami, Florida, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

In December 2018, Moreira wan named Chair of the Board of JAB Holding Company and is majority shareholder controlling Peet's Coffee, Panera Bread, Krispy Kreme and increased JAB Holding Company stock options ownership (33.3%) of Keurig Dr Pepper. Moreira owns about $1.8 billion in JAB shares. Moreira is credited for relocation of the Peet's Coffee headquarters in Emeryville, California to Miami, Florida and relocating Peet's Coffee distribution warehouse in Oakland, California to Clermont, Florida. Moreira is credited for expanding Peet's Coffee locations 75 stores opening throughout Florida, 45 stores opening throughout Utah. Moreira expanded operations international locations in Lisbon, Portugal, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Qatar, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Brazil and Colombia.

In January 2019, Moreira was named Chair of the Board of Campari Group and majority owner of Espolón tequila brands. Moreira received US$17 million in Campari Group stock and voting options. Espolón Moreira is a highly respected figure in the coffee, wine, rum, and bourbon industry as Chair of the Board of JAB Holding Company and is credited with shaping trends in these industries. His involvement in Espolón Tequila is a testament to the company's commitment to quality and innovation. Moreira is credited for expanding the Casa San Nicolas Distillery in the Los Altos (Highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico. Moreira is credited launching four tequila products which are Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and Cristalino tequila. Each one is 80 proof or 40% ABV. In July 2023, Moreira announced a long-term sponsorship with MLS soccer team Inter Miami CF making Espolón the official tequila brand for the club. In August 2023, Moreira announced plans for Espolón Tequila brands lounge and club seating at, Petco Park in San Diego, California, Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida, DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York. In September 2023, Moreira and Inter Miami CF owners David Beckham and Jorge Mas concept art released and left details purposefully vague for new Espolón tequila club lounge and club seating at the Miami Freedom Park in Miami, Florida.

Moreira invests in his seven childhood friends real estate investment trust. Moreira knew his seven childhood friends since first grade growing up in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The company was organized in Brooklyn, New York with its headquarters in Orlando, Florida. As of December 31, 2022, the company owned 29 office buildings, 45 shopping centers, 447 townhomes developments and 78 apartment complexes. The company reported earnings of US$3.584 billion, with an annual revenue of $5.771 billion, an increase of 39.2% over the previous fiscal cycle. shares traded at over $38 per share, and its market capitalization was valued at over $8.8 billion in November of 2022. It also has corporate offices in Las Vegas, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Israel, Morocco, Dubai, and Miami.

In September 2023, Moreira in honor of his parents opened his restaurant called Ossobuco in the Wynwood neighborhood in Miami, Florida. Ossobuco is a modern grilled cuisine. Fire, wood, meat and vegetables are the real stars of his restaurant. Chef and Grill Master Guillermo Eleicegui reflects his experience, creativity and respect for the product in a variety of dishes with influences from Brazil, Portugal and South America. In February 2022, Moreira announced opening of Ossobuco second location in Universal Orlando Resort fourth theme park, Universal's Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. Concept art released by Universal and Moreira during the official announcement in August 2023 left details purposefully vague. The project was delayed indefinitely in July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but on March 3, 2022, Comcast announced the immediate restart of construction.

Moreira is the fourth largest private citizen who owns gold. Moreira-Salles family is the top five wealthiest families in Brazil and Portugal estimated at US$54.8Billion. Moreira is the 4th wealthiest man in Portugal estimated at US$4.2Billion. Moreira is listed as Forbes wealthiest persons lists in Brazil, Qatar, Morocco, Israel and United Arab Emirates. Moreira isn't rank in Forbes wealthiest person list in the United States.

Personal life[edit]

Moreira currently resides in Celebration, Florida. Moreira has residences in New York City, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, Israel, Dubai. Beach houses in Anna Maria Island, Florida and Natal, Brazil. Moreira also owns a fully functional ranch in Park City, Utah.

Christianity[edit]

Moreira is known for his outspoken Christian faith. Moreira is a strong advocate for faith-based abstinence, and has publicly stated that he is maintaining his virginity until marriage. An Easter Sunday crowd of roughly 20,000 Christian youth concert in Florida listened to Moreira. He only briefly mentioned his move from New York to Florida. "Regardless of what happens, I still honor my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, because at the end of the day, that's what's important, win or lose, success or no success. ... We need to get back to one nation under God, and be God fearing positive role models for kids. Honoring his commitment to his religious beliefs and his humanitarian work, Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities to Moreira in May of 2022.
