  • Comment: Some of the suggestions made by the last reviewer, regarding the removal of unreliable sources and formatting tips, were attended to, but the issue of notability (as per WP:NALBUM) were not addressed. I would advise a merge of the information here to EMF (band) until if and when the album itself becomes demonstrably notable. Rkieferbaum (talk) 20:05, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

"Go Go Sapiens" is the fourth studio album by English alternative band EMF, released in 2022. This is their first new album since 1995 - "You’ve supported us every step of the way - going to gigs, buying DVDs, box sets and t-shirts - all in the hopes that this day would eventually come"[4]. The band released 3 singles from the album: Sister Sandinista, Crime Of Passion and Sparks And Flashes.

Background and recording[edit]

In 2020, the band successfully crowdfunded a career-spanning vinyl boxset titled From Us To You. It contained all the full-length albums remastered, and a 4th vinyl containing unreleased demos and fan-favorite non-album tracks. “After a great 30th anniversary year, the band was in a really good place and we just felt ready to make another album,” says singer James Atkin.

With the proceeds, the band recorded an all-new material album - Go Go Sapiens. All the original line-up (bar bassist Zac Foley who died in 2002) are back for the new record.

“Making Go Go Sapiens without a record label breathing down our necks was liberating - says guitarist Ian Dench. “As Derry always says ‘we have nothing to prove’ so we did it for the fans and cause this is who we are and what we love to do. 100% EMF from the cradle to the rave.”

Critical reception[edit]

My Global Mind gave Go Go Sapiens 4/5 stars. "The album is full of great songs, pulling on the strengths of rock, pop and dance, while giving a nod to the band’s past. It reveals more of itself on each listen, and you’ll find yourself putting the album back on again, as soon as the album finishes. It sounds like no other band but EMF, and is very much recommended."[2]

Sonic Abuse gave Go Go Sapeens 4/5 stars. "Go Go Sapiens is a fantastic album. Brilliantly produced, it draws on EMF’s extensive experience to offer a contemporary take on the innovative 90s music scene that spawned them. It could so easily have been different."[3]
