Group-IB is a cybersecurity company headquartered in Singapore, currently run by its co-founder Dmitry Volkov.
History[edit]
Group-IB was founded in 2003 by Ilya Sachkov and Dmitry Volkov in Russia. Later, it was moved to Singapore in 2019.[1]
After moving to Singapore, in July 2020, it received funding from the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore sponsored by venture capital firm TNB Ventures.[2]
In November 2020, Group-IB opened its headquarters in Amsterdam.[3]
In 2021, it opened its offices in United Arab Emirates for Middle East and Africa operations.[4]
In September 2021, its co-founder and then CEO, Ilya Sachkov was detained by Russian authorities for treason and was later jailed for 14 years.[5][6]
In July 2022, it announced to split Russian and international business and finalized the split and sold the business in April 2023 handing over its interests to local management in Russia.[7][8]
In December 2022, it signed an agreement with Sirar, a subsidiary of Saudi Telecom Company for improving cybersecurity standards in Saudi Arabia.[9]
In March 2023, it opened the Digital Crime Resistance Center in Thailand and signed a strategic partnership agreement with nForce (Secure). [10][11]
In September 2023, it signed an agreement with Corvit, a UAE-based digital company, and announced the opening of a learning center, Digital Crime Resistance Center in Dubai. In October 2023, it signed an agreement with the UAE Cyber Security Council.
In March 2024, it signed a partnership agreement with HELP University in Malaysia to provide specialized educational programs.[12]
Investigations with law enforcement agencies[edit]
In 2015, it partnered with Europol to cooperate in fighting cybercrime, and in 2017, It signed an agreement with Interpol to become a private sector partner.[13]
In November 2021, as part of the operation No-vax free, and helped Guardia di Finanza (GdF), the Italian police for financial crimes, in identifying the criminals trading in fake green passes of COVID-19 vaccines.[13]
In July 2022, it worked with the Dutch police in an operation to apprehend alleged members of a phishing group named Fraud Family.[14][15]
In February 2024, AFRIPOL signed a MoU with Group-IB to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities.[16][17] and extended their strategic partnership with Interpol at INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore.[18]
