Guy Dimond is a British food, drink and travel writer and editor, and restaurant critic.
He was the Food and Drink Editor of Time Out London for 17 years (1998–2015), and during the later years was also the Time Out Group's international Group Food and Drink Editor,[1] acting as consultant for overseas editions of Time Out from Tokyo to Dubai. For ten years prior to this (1988–1998) he was a principal contributor to the Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide, which at the time was London's leading restaurant guide.[2] He has also been the restaurant critic for Marie Claire and Esquire magazines, was the London contributor for Gourmet magazine (US) 2000–2009, was London correspondent for Australian Gourmet Traveller,[3] and contributed to delicious. magazine.[4]
He has written for newspapers including The Guardian, The Times,[5] The Independent (all UK), The Age (Melbourne), Malayala Manorama (Kerala, India), and the New York Times.[6]
Dimond has also been a prolific travel writer, contributing to many travel guide books including the Cadogan Greek Islands series, Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Guides to New York, Paris and London, Europe's Best Bakeries, and others. [7]
In 2004 Dimond was awarded Restaurant Critic of the Year at the Glenfiddich Awards, the leading food and drink journalism awards at the time. In the same year he also won the top accolade, the Glenfiddich Trophy, elected by his peers as the best food and drink journalist in the UK. He has also won awards for teaching journalism. He was the tutor of the food and drink journalism course at City University (Award for Teaching Excellence in Curriculum Design 2009), and was a Media Studies lecturer at the University of Surrey.
Dimond's work at Time Out was notable for its strong coverage of affordable eating,[8] gastropubs and bars[9] (10), and for his extensive coverage of ethnic restaurants in all areas of London. Dimond invariably reviewed anonymously, paying his way without favourable treatment.
