The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) is an American academic research and support group for humans in crisis and conflict resolution.^[1] It is tasked with relieving human suffering by using science and the practice of humanitarian response.^[2] The Initiative combines public health, medicine, social science, and humanities to advance research in the areas of humanitarian assistance to those affected by adverse environments or natural disaster.^[3] The Initiative is based at the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.^[4] The Initiative is led by Michael VanRooyen (2024).^[5]

Peace and Human Rights Data Program[edit]

HHI’s Peace and Human Rights Data Program helps countries with complex human rights and international humanitarian violations. The program trains scientists and uses proven research to support survivors of violence and natural disasters. HHI works on the needs of survivors and makes sure that they are recognized by governments, United Nations agencies, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).^[6]^[7]
