This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by S0091 5 months ago. |
- Comment: The sources are all primary, and mostly close to the subject, and therefore unable to establish notability per WP:GNG. DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:09, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: In addition to the the above, what they say or want to say about themselves is not useful and most of this is unsourced. S0091 (talk) 22:16, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
The Inland Waterways Amenity and Advisory Council (IWAAC) was a statutory body in the United Kingdom that advised the government and navigation authorities on the use and development of inland waterways. It was established under the Transport Act 1968 and abolished in 2012, following an initial announcement in July 2010.[1][2] However, its work continues to be carried out by a number of other organizations, including the Inland Waterways Association and the Canal & River Trust.
Responsibility[edit]
IWAAC played an important role in the development of inland waterways for leisure use in the UK.[3] It was responsible for advising the British Waterways Board and the Secretary of State for the Environment on the use and development of inland waterways for amenity and recreation[4], including:
- The development of the National Waterway Network, a network of over 3,200 kilometers of inland waterways suitable for boating.[5]
- The establishment of the British Waterways Board, which was responsible for managing the inland waterways in England and Wales.
- The creation of the Inland Waterways Association, a national charity that promotes the use and enjoyment of inland waterways.
IWAAC has published reports[6] which include using inland waterways to tackle social exclusion, funding and income sources for a selection or overseas waterways, insights into the funding of inland waterways in Britain, balancing the needs of navigation and aquatic wildlife, awareness and appreciation of the canal network in Scotland, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by moving more freight onto inland waterways.
