The sport of Handpolo was designed for the first time by Prof. Seyyed Mohammad Kashef and his colleague, Dr. Akbar Noori, from Urmia University, in Iran, and it was performed in 2021 in the Olympiad and public sports competitions of the country's universities for women and men. Since 2023, it has been recognized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth of Iran and started its national activity as the Iranian Handpolo Committee under the supervision of the Federation of Public Sports.
The sport of Handpolo, which is also called Tupsu in the local language, can be played by everyone , in two times 15 minutes in shallow water. The simple rules of this game make it possible for everyone to learn and perform Handpolo easily and correctly.
Handpolo can be practiced in the shallow part of the swimming pools and in the shallow waters of the seas and rivers with the presence of two four-player teams. The water depth should be between 80 and 120 cm which is suitable for different age groups. By creating a lively and fun atmosphere, Handpolo creates a healthy and dynamic competitive environment for those interested in this activity.
