On January 4, 2024, approximately 7:36 A.M., a 17- year old Dylan Butler, shot 6 students leaving a six grader dead while 4 among five students wonded at Perry Highchool, Iowa before the school day had started. After the authorities arrived at the scene, the police found the shooter dead with self-inflicted wounds and a pump-action shotgun and a small caliber handgun including a explosive device were recovered in the scene.[1][2]

On January 4, 2024, approximately 7:35 A.M., at Perry Highschool, at Perry, Iowa, 20 minutes before the school started, during a breakfast program, A 17 year old, Dylan Butler (c..2006-January 4, 2024) shot 4 students and 1 principal inside of the campus, leaving a six grader student dead. According to authorities, 1 among the 4 wonded people were in a critical condition while the rest of people were stable.[3] A 16 year old student named Samuel Hernandez, shows his story, how tried to walk into school when his teacher when he scorted him out of the building amd told there was a shooting inside, In an interview with Des Moines Register, he said that, "She's escorting me out saying 'Don't go in because we don't want you to get hurt," Hernandez said in the statement that they are in the state of schock and he did not know were his friends are unhurt, He added that, "It doesn't seem real," Hernandez said. "It's crazy. Expect the unexpected. None of us expected it to happen out of nowhere."[4] When the police arrived in the scene, Butler was found dead with self-inflicted wounds and a pump-action shotgun and small-caliber handgun, police also recovered a explosive within the location of the incident which the state fire marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives rendered it safe.[5][6]

Perpetrator[edit]

Dylan Butler (c..2006- January 4, 2024) was born circa 2006 to Jack Butler, the manager of Perry Municipal Airport and a former Works Director of Perry, Iowa and to Erin Butler.[7] Butler was a highschool student of Perry Highschool of Iowa when the shooting happened. According to Police, before the shooting, Butler posted himself on his tiktok account in the bathroom stall of school with a blue daffle bag by his feet with a caption that read "now we wait" with the song "Stray Bullet" by KMFDM playing in the background. Butler had more than 250 followers on tiktok; all his social media accounts has been taken down since the incident. The school does not release of the names of the victims of Perry Highschool shooting. Police said that the perpetrator has also maintained a suspended-low profile on Reddit, On January 2021, Butler posted a photo on his Reddit account showing his revolver.[7] According to his classmates, Yesenia Roeder and Khamya Hall, Butler was bullied relentlessly bullied since elementary, and Butler got tired of it, they added that before the shooting happened, Butler's younger sister got bullied too but School officials didn't intervene; Roeder and Hall said that that was the "last straw" for Butler.[8][9]

Investigation[edit]

According to Assistant Director of Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Mitch Mordvedt, the perpetrator made numerous social media accounts in and around the time of shooting, he added that investigators were looking at the perpetrator's posts as the part of Investigation.[1] The possibe motives are still unknown[10][9], and the investigation is still ongoing. The Police said theenia perpetrator was alone when the incident happened. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante said before the school started, there are few students and teachers in the building, Infante added in statement says that "which I think contributed a good outcome in that sense.", He further added that "There is no further danger to the public. The community is safe,"..."We're just now working backwards, trying to figure out everything that happened and make notifications."[11]

Reactions[edit]

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said that "This senseless tragedy has shaken our entire state to its core", Reynolds added that her prayers were around her community. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre release a statement that says, "Our hearts break for the families of the victims in yet another act of senseless gun violence,". US President Joe Biden was monitoring the incident, the White House says, Pierre added in her statement that, "It's only the fourth day in the year, in the new year, and we are already faced with yet another horrific school shooting. And the question that we ask, is when will enough be enough?".[12][13]

Aftermath[edit]

Governor Reynolds ordered that all flags should be lowered half-staff until sunset on Sunday.
