Jonas M. Tibbetts was a lawyer, prosecutor, offiical in the Arkansas legislature, and judge in Arkansas. He supported the Union and was involved in Reconstruction era administration of the state after the American Civil War. [1][2]

Tibbetts was born in New Hampshire and came to Arkansas in the 1830s. He left during the Civil War and returned again.[3]

He turned down a nomination to stand as a candidate for U.S. Senate.[4]

In 1854 he was involved in contracting a courthouse to George D. Baker.[5] He owned the Metropolitan Hotel which was used as Republican headquarters.[6]
