Jeffrey Pereira-Ogbekhilu[1],better known professionally as J Merlin,[2] is a music producer and songwriter from Vestry Road, Camberwell, London. He is known for his unique style of music, he released his first dance single, Metro House in 2019 and 2023 he released multiple hip hop singles including Been Bad.[3]

According to The Pit London,[4] J Merlin is a smooth talented rapper and producer. The back story of Been Bad is about his past mischievous ways. Starting out as a producer in 2019 J Merlin took huge step into becoming a lyrical artist as well as a producer and songwriter by the influence of Kanye West series, Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.

  • In 2019 J Merlin came into the industry as producer in the dance music scene releasing multiple singles
  • He was the producer on the track "Waves"[5] by Killa Ki which featured Lancey Foux in 2019
  • In the period of 2020-2022 he collaborated with an independent record label, Rough Diamond Recordings playing a pivotal role in shaping the soundscape of emerging artists from London
  • In 2023 he released multiple hip hop singles including "Not the Same" and "Been Bad"[6]

Personal life[edit]

J Merlin is born to an Angolan mother and Nigerian father[7]. He grew up listening to multiple genres such as Bossa Nova, Semba, Kizomba and Hip Hop.

He lived on Vestry Road, Camberwell, London, UK however Peckham[8] was the area he would go to socialise with his friends which had a negative impact on his life in 2015 especially the event that took place on Nigel Road.[9] According to Southwark News, in 2017 J Merlin changed his life around by slowly getting back into music and in 2019 things started to take off for the talented producer.[10]
