James Cornelison (born 1993) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles, California.
Life and Career[edit]
James Cornelison grew up in Chicago, Illinois[1]. His father, Jim Cornelison, was an opera singer and mother a music teacher.[2] Around age thirteen he started playing guitar and writing songs. Through high school he played guitar in a house band at the Kingston Mines[3], affording him the opportunity to play behind many of Chicago’s most highly acclaimed blues artists.[4]
He went on to study jazz and contemplative studies at the University of Michigan[5] [1]and began playing guitar for members of Vulfpeck[6], Theo Katzman[7][8], and Joey Dosik[9][10][11]. In 2016, Cornelison moved to Los Angeles, California working as a touring and session guitar player and producer[12][13][14]. In 2020, Cornelison began playing for the band Lake Street Dive at the retirement of founding member, Mike ‘McDuck’ Olson.[15][16]
