James Nathaniel Eaton Sr. (September 14, 1930 - October 26, 2004) was a history professor and black history research center founder.[1]

He was born in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Van De Vyver School, a Catholic school for African Americans in Richmond's Jackson Ward section, in 1948.[2] He received his B.A. from Fisk University in 1952 and his M.A. in 1959. He received his L.H.D. from Florida Memorial College in 1997.[3]

He was a founder, curator and director of the Southeastern Regional Black Archives Research Center and Museum.[4]
