Joe Markowski (born November 25, 2003) is an American radio personality, best known for hosting the weekly traditional country music show The Nashville Sound, which broadcasts from the WNHU Studios in New Haven, CT.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Markowski was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on November 25, 2003 and raised in the small shoreline town of Guilford, Connecticut. He grew up listening to all genres of music, however country music was most prominently played by his parents and grandparents.[1] He would often enjoy working in the garage at a young age with his father and grandfather who played Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, and Dwight Yoakam, among others.[2] Markowski credits listening to radio personality John "Cadillac" Saville of WWYZ-FM as his inspiration to work in the industry. [3]

He began his career in radio at the age of 18 at the University of New Haven's famed radio station which has been awarded "Best College Radio Station" for over six consecutive years.[4] During this time, he was mentored by Bruce Barber who hosted the top morning radio show in Connecticut on WPLR-FM. [5]

The Nashville Sound[edit]

In September 2022, Markowski began hosting the weekly radio show The Nashville Sound airing Tuesday's 5:00-7:00 p.m. (ET). The two hour show is broadcast live, and can currently be heard on 88.7 FM or across the United States on wnhu.org.[6]

The show attracts fans of traditional country music playing timeless hits, as well as the newest music released from music row. Markowski incorporates stories behind songs and artists of the genre. He regularly welcomes co-hosts to the program, along with guest artists. Artist's travel from across the U.S. including the home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, to join Markowski in the studio for interviews and on-air performances.[7]
